Louise has been teaching botanical art for over fifteen years at the University of Washington Botanic Gardens, Gage Academy of Art, and elementary schools, among other venues. She will join the faculty at the University of Washington Natural Science Illustration certificate program this spring.

Instructor: Louise M. Smith
Participants study the classification and identification of botanical subjects as they explore the field of scientific botanical illustration. They work to improve observation skills and continue to develop skills in drawing, composition, and facility with both pen and ink and watercolor. Course includes two scheduled Saturday field trips to the UW Greenhouse and Washington Park, Anacortes.
Class is also available to those not enrolled in the certificate program
on a space available basis
